TS45 Take 3

This was my third bit of work with the TS45. Same as the first two, right away I tore the gun apart and properly cleaned and lubed everything. The seal was probably worst off in this one, but it swelled up alright with some oil. I’m going to have to get new seals for all three in the end. Then I set to work on the stock.

That was the first attempt and the original.

My biggest goals with this one were to have an elevated cheek, a slimmer grip, and only a slightly longer butt.  So, again, it was time to mark off what I wanted cut, crank up the speed on the drill press, and go to town.

I’ve been asked a time or two...I use just a plain jane regular stright cut router bit.  Now, a drill press, even cranked up to the max (or mine, anyway) doesn’t turn half as fast a router.  So, if you do this, keep in mind that your bit is a lot more likely to bite.  Move slowly.  Keep your grip firm but be wary and aloof. If you don’t mind your fingers you may ruin one.

After that I cut some bits of birch plywood, matched some edges, and glued everything up with Titebond.  Something exercises like this always prove to me is that I can’t joint to save my life.

Then lots of sanding, some sanding, then some sanding, then a lot of sanding, and six coats of poly later I have this:

I’m a lot happier with this one. It fits my hand a lot better and is easier to hold.  As soon as I get a good scope on it it’ll be excellent.  This is probably one of my favorite projects so far.
