TS45 Take 2

I did the typical things with the gun upon receipt.  I disassembled it and cleaned everything. Honed the cylinder.  Properly lubed everything.  Then I went on to my true complaint.

In these pictures you can see a lot of the basic contour of the gun’s grip:

So I marked off what I wanted to go, cranked up the mill, and went to town.  I trimmed mostly around the grip, but also lopped off a bit at the end of the stock. then I added some spacers to the butt to make it a little more comfortable to hold and shoot.

Probably the biggest improvement was the scope rail. It’s very crude, but quite effective.  It’s mild steel, filed appropriately and tacked the the top of the gun.  I tried some lesser method of gluing a rail on. Word of advice for those wanting to glue a rail to one of these: Just don’t.  The recoil is so violent that J B Weld, Loctite Weld, and Loctite 2615 (an industrial epoxy not available to the public) all fell right away after only a shot or two.

Grip was trimmed to about 3/8” thinner all around, and fit a little more appropriately to my hand. you can also see the spacers added to the butt to get a little more length out of it.

While shooting well, and looking and feeling far better than stock, it was still not quite everything I wanted out of it. There were still a few quirks.  Mostly, I had inadvertently made the stock too long.  It won’t require much to fix, but I also don’t want to cut it apart.  The grip was also still too fat, though now it was manageable.

I’m also disappointed with the 18lb trigger...but may not be able to do anyting about it due to the simple mechanics of the gun.  I have been thinking of it less of a hard pull and more as a deliberate one.  With the bear trap so shoddy and having to put your fingers into a live breech to load it, I have developed a fondness of a trigger you don’t accidentally pull.

I think the total project was a success, but I also look forward to the improvements I will make with the next!
